The Brentwood School District encourages parents/guardians and other members of the community to share their time, knowledge and abilities with our students. Community volunteers in our schools and activities enrich the total educational program and strengthen our schools’ relationships with homes, businesses, public agencies and private institutions. The presence of volunteers in the classroom, on school grounds and at extracurricular activities also enhances supervision of students and contributes to school safety.
Board policy requires background checks to be performed for each volunteer who directly works with students or who is in the school on a regular basis, including those wishing to serve as room parents or anyone wishing to accompany children on field trips. These background checks include:
• FBI/Highway Patrol, which requires fingerprinting at a designated location. (This is a one-time requirement
and is good for as long as your child attends the Brentwood School District).
• Child Abuse or Neglect/Criminal Record check (must be resubmitted annually).
In addition to the background checks our insurance company and Board policy require all volunteers to watch a 35-minute video on Child Abuse/Neglect. This video is provided by the Missouri United School Insurance Counsel, the district's property, and casualty insurance company. Viewings of the video are offered at the beginning each school year, or a link can be sent to you for you watch the video at a convenient time prior to serving as a volunteer. The building principals will offer additional viewings of the video throughout the school year. Building attendance at a viewing requires the volunteer’s signature to document participation. The on-line video requires the volunteer to answer a series of questions to document participation. Please contact your child/children's school principal's secretary for more information.
All expenses for background checks for volunteers will be assumed by the district. All information collected on volunteers will be considered confidential to the extent allowed by law and will only be used to protect the students or minimize disruption to the educational environment.
Please contact Kate Hastings at 314-962-4507 if you have any questions.
