Brentwood School District

Volunteer Information

The Brentwood School District encourages parents, guardians, and other members of the community to share their time, knowledge, and abilities with our students. Community volunteers in our schools and activities enrich the overall educational program and strengthen our schools’ relationships with homes, businesses, public agencies, and private institutions. The presence of volunteers in the classroom, on school grounds, and at extracurricular activities also enhances supervision of students and contributes to school safety.

In order to ensure a system that maximizes safety for our children, Board policy (GBEBC) requires background checks be performed for each volunteer/mentor who directly works with students or who is in the school on a regular basis, including those wishing to serve as room parent or anyone wanting to accompany children on field trips. These background checks include:

  • FBI/Highway Patrol, which requires fingerprinting at a designated location. (This is a one-time requirement that must be completed separately from any other school district or employer.)
  • Child Abuse or Neglect/Criminal Record check (must be submitted annually)
  • Smarter Adults, Safer Children, video which is designed to dispel common misconceptions about child abuse and to empower all adults working with children to be vigilant in maintaining a safe environment free of adult behaviors that could increase the risks or allow signs of abuse to go unnoticed. (must be completed annually)

All expenses for background checks for volunteers will be assumed by the District. All information collected on volunteers/mentors will be considered confidential to the extent allowed by law and will only be used to protect the students or minimize disruption to the educational environment. All volunteer work is kept in a secured place in the central office.

All background checks must be completed prior to volunteering in our district.
