Welcome to the Prop B Progress Blog! I will be using this blog to keep the community updated on the renovations at the middle school/high school. We have been very busy since April. District staff have been meeting regularly with our architects to continue to refine the project design. We have also been having land and geotechnology surveys completed. We are on schedule to bid the project in January 2019 and award it in February 2019. If you are interested in the details, I have attached the schedule timeline.

Please keep in mind we will still be in the design phase for the next four months so the images are a work in progress. 

Here is an image of the exterior of the school. The new entrances will provide security while we continue to honor the traditional appearance of the school.

This picture shows the new middle school entrance into the commons space. The entrance will allow us to take all visitors through a secure vestibule and into the office before they can move through the building.

Lots of exciting work happening on the project! I spent the day last Friday meeting with each of the departments at the high school as we gathered more input from the staff. Several great ideas surfaced during the day that will impact the final design. We received the initial report from the mechanical engineer and the news was positive. Due to the hard work of our facilities department in maintaining and repairing our HVAC units, we anticipate the cost of the HVAC work will be $500,000 less than originally anticipated. This will allow us to do more work to the interior of the building.

We recently met with our architects and project manager and we are on schedule and on budget for the project. The team is continuing to refine costs to determine the exact scope of the work. We are confident that the budget will meet all of the priorities of the project, at this point we are determining how many of the "extras" we can include. Ittner will be updating the board of education at our December 18th meeting on the project. I encourage you to attend. We will meet at 7:00 in the conference room at 1201 Hanley Industrial Ct.

As we are getting closer to the start of the middle school/high school project I thought it would be helpful to post the timeline for the project.

February 2019- Project put out for bid

March 2019- Construction companies interviewed and bid awarded

April 2019- Begin staging the site and breaking ground

Summer of 2019- Major construction occurring including the new construction of the commons and library

2019-2020 School Year- Temporary classrooms created in spaces such as the existing library and lecture hall allowing small blocks of 3-4 adjacent classrooms to be renovated at a time.

Summer of 2020- Final push and project to be completed by the end of the Summer!
