Z Arrindell 2018 Natl Speech & Debate

Seven Brentwood students participated in the 2018 National Speech and Debate Tournament held June 17-22 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Hosted by the National Speech and Debate Association, this annual event is the largest academic competition in the world.  It honors the top two percent of all speech and debate competitors in the country.

Zach Arrindell placed 14th out of the top 243 competitors in his event.  Madhumathi Vijayalingam and Meghan Haug made it out of preliminary rounds of their supplemental event, expository speaking. Madhu made it all the way to Round 5.

Brentwood took a team that learned a completely new form of debate in a very short amount of time and won two rounds at the national tournament. They were also only .5 to 2 points away from winning two more rounds. Most importantly, however, they had an amazing time together and really came together as a team.
