AMI Plans

In 2019, the Missouri state legislature passed SB604, allowing school districts to use an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Plan on days when there is an unexpected school or district closure. The 2020-2021 school year is the first year districts in Missouri have been able to implement these plans.

AMI Plans can be used any time there is an unexpected closure due to things like inclement weather or utility outages. In Brentwood, our AMI plans will be implemented virtually through Canvas and will follow a set schedule of synchronous learning and asynchronous coursework.

Whenever we communicate a school or district closure, we will communicate whether or not our AMI Plans are in effect. If the AMI Plan is in effect, students and families can visit our AMI Plan webpage for schedule details and should login to their Canvas profile for more information and instructions. On AMI days, students will be able to access their classes and lessons through Canvas.

In providing AMI to our community, Brentwood students will be able to stay engaged and keep learning with their teachers in the event of unexpected closures. AMI will help students stay on track during the school year by limiting interruptions to the flow of our curriculum. In addition, since AMI Plan days count as learning days, they will not need to be made up at the end of the school year.

COVID-19 has been a special case that, in many ways, has already prepared us for implementing AMI Plans during future school closures. However, due to the unique nature of the pandemic, whenever a class, school, or the district is closed due to COVID-19, we will communicate special instructions about virtual learning that will not necessarily follow the standard AMI Plan.

Please be sure to read any school closure information carefully to know how students can continue to learn in the event of unexpected closings.
