The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has released its list of 2023 Scholar-Athletes, and Brentwood High School senior Ian Thornton was among the student-athletes honored by the publication.
A baseball and basketball standout, Thornton carries a 4.13 cumulative grade-point average and earned a composite score of 32 on the ACT. He is a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of the George Washington Carver Award for outstanding educational achievement.
On the basketball court, Thornton was a three-time first-team all-conference performer and earned Conference Player of the Year honors as a junior. He averaged 19.8 points per game as a senior and finished his career with more than 1,200 points. Thornton also earned first-team all-conference baseball honors twice and finished his senior season with a .522 batting average, which ranked in the top 10 among all high school players in the St. Louis metro area.
Thornton will attend Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. and has signed a letter of intent to play baseball for the Bulldogs.
Each year, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar-Athlete program honors one senior from every participating school in the publication’s immediate coverage area. Student-athletes are selected by administrators from each school.
