Once training is complete, tutors are paired with a student and meet at least once a week throughout the school year. The program serves students in kindergarten through third grade, a critical period for developing reading and language skills.

Oasis tutoring sessions take place during the school day at either Mark Twain Elementary School or McGrath Elementary School. We will work with you to find a schedule that fits your availability.

Tutors complete a day of training based on a proven six-part plan that includes talking, reading and writing activities. Volunteers learn strategies to encourage conversation, build reading confidence and create simple stories that support literacy development. Ongoing tutor meetings are also available for continued learning and opportunities to connect with other volunteers.
