Keeping students and staff safe in an emergency situation is a team effort. In order for our emergency plans to be effective, we depend on assistance from local first responders, including police, fire and emergency medical services. We also depend on the cooperation and support of our families.

In the event of an emergency, DO:

• Trust our school staff and first responders. They have been trained to respond to a variety of emergency situations, and they are committed to keeping students safe.
   
• Remain calm and be patient. We will share information with families as soon as it has been confirmed by first responders. Our goal is to share information as quickly as possible, and provide regular updates. However, it is even more important for the information we share to be accurate.
   
• Check your phone for voicemail and text messages from Brentwood’s mass notification system. Additional messages will be sent as the situation develops.
   
• Visit our district website and official social media accounts for the most up-to-date, confirmed information. Please share our information on social media.
   

In the event of an emergency, DO NOT:

• Do not call the school or district office. While we understand and respect your concerns, it is essential that the phone lines be available for emergency communications.
   
• Do not come to the school or district office. In an emergency, it may be necessary to keep the streets and parking lots clear for emergency vehicles. In addition, if an evacuation is required, students may be transported to a secondary location. You will receive instructions by voicemail, text and email regarding when, where and how to pick up your student.
   
• Do not call or text students or staff members. While we understand and respect your concerns, it is essential for students and staff to remain focused on following emergency procedures. It is also imperative that the mobile network be available for emergency communications.
   
• Do not spread misinformation on social media. Remember, the district will issue official updates on our website and social media accounts. Emergency communication requires our entire community to work together. Dedicating precious time and resources to analyze and dispel false statements takes attention away from emergency efforts.
