Volunteering in Brentwood Schools

Thank you for your interest in volunteering in the Brentwood School District! Our schools are stronger when families and community members are actively engaged, and we're grateful to those who share their time, talents and enthusiasm with our students and staff. Whether you're helping in a classroom, supporting a special event or chaperoning a field trip, your involvement helps create a positive, enriching school experience.

Volunteer Background Check Requirements

Missouri law requires an FBI background check with fingerprinting, a child abuse and neglect background check, and policy and procedure training for all volunteers who supervise students outside the presence of a school district employee. Background check results are typically returned within 10-15 business days.

Examples of volunteers who MUST complete the background check requirements include:

  • Coaches or instructors for school-sponsored activities, clubs and sports
  • Mentors and tutors
  • Chaperones on school-sponsored trips, including overnight trips, during an occasional activity, or field trip off campus and may be alone with students at times

Below are examples of volunteers who DO NOT need a background check. These individuals serve under the supervision of district employees and are not alone with students at any time:

  • Assisting with classroom parties and school events
  • Attending school events during school hours
  • Serving as a guest speaker or classroom presenter

Anyone who would like to volunteer as part of an activity that takes place outside the presence of a district employee should contact their school’s main office for information on how to apply online as a volunteer.
