Brentwood Names New Leader for Athletics and Activities Programs

The Brentwood School District Board of Education voted on April 21 to hire Andrew Gordon as its next Director of Athletics and Activities. Gordon will step into the role following a year of positive growth and momentum across Brentwood’s athletics and activities programs, with a focus on expanding opportunities and continuing to build student participation and engagement.

Gordon currently serves as a physical education and health teacher at Brentwood Middle and High School, where he has also coached multiple sports and played an active role in supporting the district’s athletics and activities programming.

“Andrew has been an integral part of the positive momentum we’ve seen in our athletics and activities programs this year,” said Dr. Amy Zielinski, superintendent of schools. “He understands how meaningful these experiences are for students, both on and off the field, and the role they play in building confidence, connection and school pride. We’re excited for him to build on that foundation by expanding opportunities, strengthening student ownership and continuing to grow participation across our district.”

During his time in Brentwood, Gordon has demonstrated a strong commitment to building inclusive, engaging programs that inspire student participation. As a coach, he has helped grow team rosters, including expanding the cross country program and leading the school’s first state-qualifying team in more than 30 years. He has also supported the launch of new middle school sports opportunities, creating additional entry points for students to get involved and stay connected.

Beyond coaching, Gordon has worked alongside students to enhance the overall athletics experience — from increasing involvement in game-day operations to supporting the creation of scoreboard graphics and promotional materials that help build excitement and school pride. He has also helped foster community partnerships that benefit student-athletes and expand access to resources.

“I am honored and excited for the opportunity to serve as Brentwood’s Director of Athletics and Activities,” Gordon said. “Brentwood is a special community with a strong sense of pride, and I look forward to expanding opportunities, strengthening student involvement and creating experiences where every student can find their passion, build confidence and feel a true sense of belonging.”

Gordon brings a background in health and physical education, along with experience coaching cross country and track at both the middle and high school levels. A former collegiate student-athlete at Truman State University, he understands firsthand the impact athletics and activities can have on student growth and development. He holds a Master of Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and is currently pursuing an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership.

In his new role, Gordon will oversee the district’s athletics and activities programming for grades 6-12, ensuring consistent, high-quality experiences for students while expanding opportunities, supporting student leadership and strengthening community connections.
