Board of Education Approves New Strategic Plan

During its January meeting, the Brentwood School District Board of Education approved a new five-year strategic plan that defines our vision, mission and values, and outlines priorities and objectives that are essential for student success.

The plan will serve as a roadmap for our administrative leadership team to develop specific and measurable action steps through the 2028-29 school year. It will also be used to create our annual Continuous School Improvement Plan, which is required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

“Our goal was to develop a comprehensive plan that reflects the collective voice of our entire community - students, parents, teachers and staff, and the wider community,” said Dr. Brian Lane, superintendent of schools. “We value the input we received, and we are committed to keeping our community informed as we work to achieve our objectives.”

Last fall, we partnered with Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to facilitate the development of the new strategic plan. Community engagement was an essential part of the process, which included focus groups with students, staff, families and community members, as well as an in-person forum and online survey.

After all of the data was collected, the Brentwood Strategic Plan Steering Committee held two full-day workshops to review community feedback and provide direction for the new strategic plan. The committee identified our top strengths and areas for improvement, and agreed that the new strategic plan should include the following four priorities:

• Student Success: Maximize student learning, growth and achievement.
• School Culture: Nurture a kind and respectful environment for all.
• Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility: Assure a sense of dignity and belonging for all.
• Unified Community Engagement: Connect our community to achieve shared goals.

The committee also used these four priorities to develop our new vision, mission and values:

Brentwood Selects HYA to Lead Strategic Planning Process

The Brentwood School District has selected Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA) to facilitate the development of a new strategic plan that will guide the district’s work for the next five years. The strategic plan defines the district’s mission, vision and guiding principles, and outlines strategic goals that are essential for student success.

“Our goal is to develop a comprehensive plan that reflects the collective voice of our entire community - students, parents, teachers and staff, and the wider community,” said Dr. Brian Lane, superintendent of schools. “This feedback will be invaluable in shaping a plan that guides our future work and helps us address any challenges we may face along the way.”

The next phase of the strategic planning process will occur this fall, when HYA will engage with various stakeholder groups for an in-depth understanding of the district’s strengths and areas for improvement. HYA will also hold a larger community engagement forum and facilitate online surveys to capture feedback from those unable to attend in-person events.
