About Your Board of Education
As elected representatives of the residents of the Brentwood School District, the seven-member Board of Education serves as the governing body for the community's public school system. The school board sets district policies, selects and evaluates the superintendent of schools, adopts the annual budget, and determines the annual tax rates.
Board members serve three-year overlapping terms with two or three members elected each year. These individuals, who receive no salary, are committed and engaged citizens who devote countless hours working on behalf of students and the educational interests of the Brentwood community.
Board Meetings
The Brentwood Board of Education meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with special meetings and workshops scheduled as needed. Meetings take place at 7 p.m. in the Brentwood High School Lecture Hall (2221 High School Dr.) unless otherwise noted. Board meetings are open to the public, and district residents are encouraged to attend. Meetings are also livestreamed and archived on the district's YouTube channel.
The board uses Simbli to provide public access to meeting agendas, minutes and supporting documents. Through Simbli, community members can view upcoming meeting details, review past board discussions and stay informed about district governance. Meeting materials are posted in advance to ensure transparency and accessibility.
Executive Sessions
Executive sessions, which are closed to the public in accordance with Missouri Sunshine Law, are held as needed for specific student, personnel, property and legal matters.
The topics discussed in executive sessions, as well as the legal provisions allowing for closed meetings, are outlined in Policy BDC - Closed Meetings, Records and Votes. These sessions follow Missouri law (RSMo 610.021), which defines the circumstances under which certain matters may be discussed privately.
