About Brentwood Special Education

The Brentwood School District partners with the Special School District of St. Louis County to provide special education services to eligible students in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.

As the largest specialized education provider in the state, Special School District equips and empowers students of all learning abilities to excel to their greatest potential. This is realized through an inclusive, collaborative approach, supported by comprehensive resources and deep expertise - all of which are centered on each student’s unique needs.

Special School District provides services to students in a variety of placements, which are governed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Services are based entirely on a student’s Individualized Education Plan.

More than 97% of students who receive services from Special School District staff attend a school in the district in which they live. This means that the vast majority of special education services are delivered by Special School District staff in 265 schools in 22 public school districts in St. Louis County.
