Brentwood School Counseling

Students learn best when they feel supported, confident and connected — and Brentwood’s school counselors play an essential role in helping each child thrive. Our counseling program supports the academic, social and emotional development of students from early childhood through high school, ensuring they feel ready to learn, grow and succeed each day.

School counseling is a specialized practice that promotes student well-being, strengthens school engagement and helps students build the skills they need to navigate school and life. Counselors partner closely with families, teachers, administrators and community resources to identify needs early, coordinate support and remove barriers to learning. They help students define goals, build healthy relationships and develop the confidence to make safe, responsible decisions.

In addition to supporting day-to-day needs, counselors provide preventive lessons, respond to individual concerns and guide students through key transitions. They help students stay focused in the classroom, prepare for future pathways and build the resilience needed to handle challenges with care and confidence.

School counseling services include:

  • Academic support, including goal-setting, organization and problem-solving
  • Classroom lessons that build social and emotional skills
  • Short-term individual and small-group counseling
  • Guidance for college and career readiness at the middle and high school levels
  • Collaboration with families, staff and community partners
  • Referrals to outside providers for long-term or specialized services
