School Social Work Services

School social workers are trained professionals who support student success by addressing the social, emotional and behavioral factors that can affect learning and well-being. They bring a unique perspective that blends mental health knowledge with an understanding of how social and environmental factors influence students at school and beyond.

Working in partnership with students, families and school staff, school social workers help remove barriers to learning and promote student well-being. Their work may include:

  • Providing individual and small-group support to students
  • Assisting students during times of stress, transition or crisis
  • Supporting positive behavior and engagement
  • Collaborating with teachers, administrators and support staff
  • Connecting families to community resources and services
  • Participating in school teams that plan academic or behavioral supports

School social workers help foster safe, supportive learning environments and advocate for equitable access to services that meet individual student needs. By working closely with families and educators, they support systems that promote student growth, engagement and academic progress.

Brentwood's school social work services are provided in partnership with the Special School District of St. Louis County. This partnership supports eligible students with Individualized Education Plans and helps ensure coordinated services that connect school, home and community.
