Identification and Eligibility

Brentwood uses an inclusive, multi-step process to identify students whose learning needs require gifted services. Universal screening occurs at selected grade levels and for students who are new to the district, ensuring all learners have an equitable opportunity to be considered.

Students who show advanced potential during screening may move on to a more comprehensive cognitive assessment. Placement in gifted services is based on multiple state and district criteria and is designed to recognize a broad range of academic and creative strengths.

Approximately 13% of our elementary school students meet the criteria for gifted identification.
